The Slovenian competition authority (AVK) organized the Slovenian Day of Competition Protection on October 14, 2026, emphasizing the importance of competition law beyond national borders. AVK Director Andrej Matvoz highlighted that a well-functioning competitive market benefits both businesses and consumers, stressing the need for accountability among competition authorities.
During the event, Matvoz awarded Hani Gabrijelčič for the best master's thesis in competition law, which focused on anti-competitive practices and regulatory responses in the EU and international markets, using Ticketmaster as a case study.
Keynote speaker Ian Forrester reflected on the development of competition law in Europe over the past fifty years, noting the transition of competition rules to national levels following the 2003 reform. He emphasized that competition law is now more accessible to a broader audience, including everyday individuals, not just legal experts.
The conference included two roundtable discussions. The first, led by Zombor Berezvai, focused on corrective measures in company concentrations, featuring representatives from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia, as well as the European Commission. The second roundtable, moderated by Eva Škufca, addressed the effectiveness of the directive on unfair trading practices, with contributions from various experts in the field.
