28.04.2025 | Hungarian competition authority

The Hungarian Competition Authority hosted a significant meeting of the Organization of Turkic States' competition authorities, focusing on cooperation in competition law and addressing challenges like artificial intelligence and inflation.

The competition authorities of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) convened in Hungary for a presidential-level meeting, attended by representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, with Hungary participating as an observer. Csaba Balázs Rigó, President of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH), highlighted the importance of fostering openness and dialogue among the member states.

The OTS, established in 2009, aims to enhance cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries. The meeting in Hungary was organized to strengthen ties and facilitate discussions on competition policy enforcement, regional cooperation, and knowledge-sharing in regulatory practices.

During the meeting, participants discussed the implications of artificial intelligence on competition policy, referencing a comprehensive market analysis conducted by the GVH in 2024. They also focused on strategies to combat cartels, sharing experiences in uncovering anti-competitive agreements.

Inflationary challenges were another key topic, with the GVH presenting its online Price Monitoring System and sectoral inquiries aimed at enhancing market competition and price transparency. The meeting concluded with a joint communiqué, committing to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to improve economic competitiveness and social welfare across the OTS member states.
