Polish Competition Authority Takes Action Against Renewable Energy Market Practices

11.09.2024 | Polish competition authority

The President of the Polish Competition Authority (UOKiK) has raised concerns about unfair practices in the renewable energy market, leading to accusations against three companies.

Consumers are increasingly interested in renewable energy sources, such as solar panels and heat pumps, to reduce energy bills and environmental impact. However, the UOKiK has received numerous complaints about this market.

The UOKiK President is focusing on scrutinizing contracts in the renewable energy market, particularly clauses that may be misleading or disadvantageous to consumers. Accusations have been made against companies like Am Eco Energy, Polska Energia Grupa Kapitałowa, and Energia dla przyszłości for using unfair contract terms.

The UOKiK is investigating companies for practices that may harm consumers, such as not providing clear information on contract terms, imposing high penalties, or limiting consumers' rights. Companies found guilty could face fines up to 10% of their turnover.
