ACCC Approves Collective Bargaining for Toowoomba Aerodrome Tenants

30.01.2025 | Australian competition authority

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has approved a collective bargaining notification for tenants at the Toowoomba City Aerodrome, allowing them to negotiate lease terms collectively.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced that it does not object to the collective bargaining notification lodged by the Toowoomba City Council Community Aerodrome Incorporated (TCCAI). This notification, identified as CB10000493, allows TCCAI to negotiate on behalf of a group of tenants at the Toowoomba City Aerodrome with the Toowoomba Regional Council, which operates the Aerodrome.

The collective bargaining process is designed to address common lease terms related to the Aerodrome hangar lease agreements. Participation in this collective negotiation is voluntary for the tenants involved.

The ACCC has determined that the collective negotiations are likely to yield public benefits, including reduced overall transaction costs for both the tenants and the Council. Additionally, the negotiations are expected to lead to more favorable lease terms that better reflect the operating costs of the Aerodrome. The ACCC believes that any potential public detriment from this arrangement will be minimal.

The legal protection for this collective bargaining arrangement will remain in effect until 7 October 2034, unless it is revoked or withdrawn. Further details can be found on the ACCC's public register regarding the Toowoomba City Community Airport Inc.
