The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has re-authorised the Australian Screen Directors Authorship Collecting Society to manage copyright assignments and income distribution for its members until 2035.

On 30 July 2025, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a determination that grants authorisation to the Australian Screen Directors Authorship Collecting Society (ASDACS). This authorisation allows ASDACS to continue requiring its member directors to assign their copyrights related to the retransmission of audio-visual content.

In addition to copyright assignments, the ASDACS is also permitted to distribute related income to its members and to overseas collecting societies. The ACCC has assessed that this conduct is likely to generate a public benefit that outweighs any potential public detriment.

The ACCC's decision to grant this authorisation is valid until 21 August 2035, providing a long-term framework for the ASDACS to operate effectively in managing the rights and income of its members.

For further details, interested parties can refer to the ACCC’s public register, which contains additional information regarding this determination.
