The Greek Competition Authority (E.A.) has praised Booking.com for voluntarily adopting transparency measures for its partners across the European Economic Area. This initiative follows a regulatory dialogue with the European Commission as part of Booking's compliance with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The transparency measures are designed to improve transparency, competitiveness in digital markets, and ensure fair trading conditions for business users of online intermediation services. This aligns with the objectives of the DMA.

It is important to note that these transparency measures do not affect or pre-determine the outcome of an ongoing investigation by the E.A. regarding potential abuse of dominance by Booking.com in the online travel agency (OTA) market.

The E.A. has raised serious preliminary concerns about the possible exclusion of competing OTA businesses from entering or expanding in Greece. In response to these concerns, Booking.com has offered commitments to the E.A., which are currently under consultation.

The E.A. is actively participating in discussions at the EU level and is closely collaborating with the European Commission and other national competition authorities within the European Competition Network (ECN) on competition issues arising in digital markets.

This announcement of transparency measures is a testament to the importance of this close cooperation in promoting effective and coherent solutions in digital markets for the benefit of consumers and businesses.

The E.A. remains committed to ensuring effective competition conditions in digital markets, exercising its powers for the benefit of business users, consumers, and the Greek economy.
