The Norwegian competition authority has approved Elkjøp's acquisition of Eplehuset after a thorough investigation, concluding it won't significantly harm competition in the market for Apple products.

The Norwegian competition authority has announced that Elkjøp is permitted to acquire Eplehuset. Both companies sell Apple products and currently compete in the sales of Mac and iPad to private customers through physical stores and online sales.

Given the importance of these products to consumers, the authority conducted a comprehensive investigation into the acquisition. This included gathering and reviewing extensive documentation from the companies, their competitors, suppliers, and other relevant parties.

On June 29, the authority informed the companies that it might block the acquisition due to concerns that it could significantly weaken competition in the sales of Mac and iPad. However, after receiving new information and conducting further analyses, the authority concluded that there was insufficient basis to halt the acquisition.

Competition director Mads Magnussen stated that the authority ensures market competition for the benefit of consumers, businesses, and society. The thorough assessment revealed that the acquisition would not significantly hinder effective competition, allowing it to proceed.

The acquisition notification was received on March 9, 2026, with a necessary review initiated on April 16, 2026. A warning about potential intervention was sent on June 29, 2026, and the companies provided their comments on July 11, 2026. The acquisition was ultimately approved on July 30, 2026.
