The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is set to be implemented in Irish law on June 28, 2025, aiming to enhance the accessibility of various products and services across the EU. This legislation is expected to benefit both consumers and businesses by ensuring that digital products, e-commerce services, and e-books are accessible to all.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) will be tasked with enforcing compliance with the EAA's accessibility requirements. In preparation for this, the CCPC has collaborated with the National Disability Authority to create guidelines specifically designed for microenterprises, outlining their obligations under the new law.
To gather insights and feedback on these guidelines, the CCPC is conducting a public consultation. This consultation is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, industry bodies, Disabled Persons’ Organisations, and consumers. The guidelines are available on the CCPC's website, along with an accessible PDF version.
The consultation period runs from April 7, 2025, to April 25, 2025, during which interested parties can submit their feedback through a consultation form available on the CCPC website.
