Norwegian Competition Authority Seeks External Advisors for International Network

03.02.2025 | Norwegian competition authority

The Norwegian Competition Authority is looking for external advisors to participate in the International Competition Network's working groups focused on various competition law issues.

The Norwegian Competition Authority is actively seeking external advisors to join its participation in the International Competition Network (ICN). This network comprises over 140 competition authorities from more than 130 jurisdictions, aiming to share experiences and methodologies in analyzing competition-related issues.

ICN plays a crucial role in building consensus and harmonization based on sound competition policy principles, while also promoting effective international cooperation. Within its working groups, ICN develops recommendations and guidelines, and organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences on relevant enforcement and regulatory matters.

External advisors, known as Non-Governmental Advisors (NGAs), represent various sectors including business, consumers, and academia. They contribute to the quality of ICN's written products and engage in discussions on competition-related topics during seminars. The Norwegian Competition Authority is currently seeking NGAs to assist in working groups focused on cartels, abuse of dominance, mergers, enforcement efficiency, and advocacy.

The cartel working group addresses issues related to the detection and prevention of cartels, while the abuse of dominance group aims to enhance understanding of enforcement against such practices. The mergers group seeks to achieve consistent enforcement across borders, and the enforcement efficiency group identifies key elements for effective enforcement. The advocacy group develops tools and recommendations to promote a more competitive regulatory framework and culture within businesses.

To qualify as an external advisor, candidates should have a strong interest in the topics discussed within the ICN network and possess good English language skills. Candidates can come from various backgrounds, including law, economics, research, or consumer/business representation. Participation is limited to two years, starting from May 1, with the possibility of renewal based on prior engagement.

Interested individuals are encouraged to express their interest by contacting Kjell J. Sunnevåg by February 14, 2025, specifying the working groups they wish to join.
