The UK competition authority, known as the CMA, has issued a letter commending the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) for successfully reaching its silver compliance milestone. This achievement reflects PHIN's commitment to enhancing transparency in the private healthcare sector.

PHIN has met all necessary steps to achieve this milestone, which includes engaging with the healthcare sector to ensure compliance with the CMA's order. Notably, 96% of consultants are now publishing their consultation fees for self-pay patients, surpassing the target of 90%. Additionally, 82% of private hospitals are submitting essential data such as volume, length of stay, adverse events, and patient feedback, exceeding the 80% target.

Furthermore, PHIN has made significant advancements in developing the necessary infrastructure to collect and publish relevant data. This includes the capability to publish anaesthetic fees on their website, a comprehensive data report for hospitals to assist with compliance, and a Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) Site Participation report. A new tool, the Patient Insights Explorer, has also been introduced to help patients better understand their potential experiences.

PHIN had previously achieved its bronze milestone in December 2024, and the CMA has expressed its commitment to continue collaborating with PHIN to ensure full compliance with the order.
