The Lithuanian competition authority invites feedback on commitments proposed by Münchener Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft regarding its acquisition of Gjensidige.

The Lithuanian competition authority has opened a public consultation for interested parties to provide their opinions on commitments proposed by Münchener Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft Aktiengesellschaft in München (MRGAM). This consultation is in response to MRGAM's planned indirect acquisition of 100% of the shares of the insurance company Gjensidige.

On 22 April 2025, the Competition Council received a notification from MRGAM regarding this merger. Following a preliminary assessment, it was determined that the transaction could create or strengthen a dominant position, significantly restricting competition in the low-premium segment of the carrier liability insurance market in Lithuania.

In light of these concerns, MRGAM submitted commitments on 26 November 2025, which include transferring all existing Gjensidige road carrier liability insurance contracts to an unrelated purchaser approved by the Competition Council. MRGAM will also refrain from competing for these customers for two years and will provide transitional services as agreed with the purchaser.

The authority encourages all interested parties to submit their opinions by 3 December 2025, and the non-confidential version of the commitments is available for review.
