Das Bundeskartellamt hat am 21.11.2025 eine Entscheidung erlassen, mit der die Rethmann-Gruppe, zu der das Entsorgungsunternehmen Remondis gehört, verpflichtet wird, in konkreten Wirtschaftszweigen für einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren künftige Zusammenschlüsse vor Vollzug beim Bundeskartellamt anzumelden. 



Mit dieser Entscheidung wendete das Bundeskartellamt erstmals eine im Jahre 2021 eingeführte und Ende 2023 nochmals angepasste Regelung an, wonach Unternehmen zur Anmeldung auch solcher Zusammenschlüsse verpflichtet werden können, die normalerweise nicht der Anmeldepflicht und damit einer Überprüfung hinsichtlich ihrer wettbewerblichen Auswirkungen unterliegen.

German Authority Mandates Rethmann Group to Notify Future Mergers

On November 21, 2025, the German competition authority, Bundeskartellamt, issued a decision requiring the Rethmann Group, which includes the waste management company Remondis, to notify future mergers in specific economic sectors before they are executed.

 This decision represents the first application of a regulation introduced in 2021 and adjusted at the end of 2023. Under this regulation, companies can be obligated to notify mergers that typically do not fall under the notification requirement and thus would not be subject to a review of their competitive effects.
