The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has recently undertaken a sweep of 17 online platforms operating in Ireland, focusing on compliance with the Platform to Business (P2B) Regulation. This action comes in response to a significant increase in complaints received in 2025.
The P2B Regulation is designed to protect businesses that rely on online platforms for reaching customers, ensuring they are treated fairly and transparently. The CCPC's sweep specifically targeted areas such as transparency in terms and conditions and the availability of resolution mechanisms for disputes.
During the sweep, it was discovered that approximately 80% of the platforms examined exhibited some form of non-compliance with the P2B Regulation. This high rate of non-compliance has prompted the CCPC to consider various actions to address these breaches and to ensure that businesses can effectively exercise their rights.
The CCPC has a range of enforcement tools at its disposal, including engagement with the platforms, issuing compliance notices, and potential prosecution. The primary goal is to raise awareness among platforms regarding their obligations under the P2B Regulation and to protect the rights of Irish businesses.
The P2B Regulation, established by EU Regulation 2019/1150, aims to create a fair and predictable business environment for companies using online platforms to sell goods or services to consumers. The CCPC serves as the competent authority for enforcing this regulation in Ireland.
