The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has fined UFD Distribución Electricidad, S.A., part of the Naturgy Group, €5.08 million for anti-competitive practices that restricted competition in the installation of electric meters between May 2018 and May 2021.

UFD was found to have misinterpreted regulations, imposing undue requirements that delayed or denied the installation of electric meters owned by other service providers and industrial clients. This conduct was deemed abusive, as it affected competition and consumer choice.

The investigation was initiated following complaints from Axon Time, S.L. and Enerlin Ingenieros, S.L. In April 2023, the CNMC conducted inspections at Naturgy's offices, leading to the sanctioning procedure initiated in November 2023.

As part of the sanctions, UFD is prohibited from contracting with the public sector for four months and must comply with several obligations, including allowing the installation of third-party telemetering equipment and informing affected clients of their rights.
