Today, the High-Level Group on the Digital Markets Act (DMA) held its fifth meeting, engaging with experts from civil society and consumer representatives to explore the group's role in coordinating various regulatory frameworks in digital markets.
The members discussed strategies to enhance collaboration in the enforcement of the EU’s digital regulations, particularly focusing on the DMA.
Additionally, the group endorsed a joint paper addressing Artificial Intelligence (AI), which outlines the regulatory interactions concerning AI issues and suggests fostering closer cooperation among authorities overseeing AI systems developed by gatekeepers.
Other topics included updates on public and private enforcement of the DMA and the activities of thematic sub-groups focusing on data obligations, interoperability, and AI, aimed at improving cooperation among members.
The DMA is designed to promote fair competition in the digital sector by regulating gatekeepers—large digital platforms that serve as critical links between businesses and consumers, potentially creating bottlenecks in the digital economy.
Established on March 23, 2023, the High-Level Group advises the European Commission to ensure coherent implementation of the DMA and related regulations for gatekeepers.
The group comprises representatives from various European regulatory bodies, including BEREC, EDPB, EDPS, ECN, CPC Network, and EBMS.
