Starting May 1, 2025, the German competition authority, known as the Bundeskartellamt, will undergo a restructuring of its decision divisions. This change will involve a shift in responsibilities for the 7th and 9th Decision Divisions, as well as Decision Division V.

Dr. Katharina Krauß, who previously led the 7th Decision Division, will now head the 9th Decision Division. Meanwhile, Birgit Krueger, the former head of the 9th Decision Division, will take over the leadership of the 7th Decision Division. These leadership changes are part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the authority.

In terms of sector responsibilities, Decision Division V will now be fully responsible for overseeing the telecommunications sector. The 7th Decision Division will focus on information technology, which includes hardware and software, as well as the economic sectors of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and internet-based digital distribution platforms for application software, commonly known as app stores.
