ACCC Seeks Feedback on Power System Coordination Re-Authorisation

28.01.2025 | Australian competition authority

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is proposing to re-authorise operational arrangements for the Diamantina Power Station, allowing for better coordination within the North West Power System.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced its proposal to re-authorise Diamantina Power Station Pty Ltd to continue its technical and operational arrangements concerning the North West Power System. This re-authorisation is crucial for enabling current and future participants in the power system to establish rules for coordinating generator dispatch and managing demand and load shedding among specific electricity consumers.

The ACCC's proposal includes granting this authorisation for a duration of five years, which aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of electricity supply in the region. The authority is currently inviting submissions from stakeholders regarding the draft determination, with a deadline set for 12 February 2025. This feedback will be considered before the ACCC makes its final decision on the matter.

Further information about the application process and how to submit feedback can be found on the ACCC’s public register, ensuring transparency and stakeholder engagement in the decision-making process.
