Telecommunications Market in Spain: Fiber Optic Lines Reach 18 Million

The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has released new telecommunications statistics for February 2026, highlighting a substantial increase in fiber optic lines in Spain.
As of February, the total number of fixed broadband lines reached 19.63 million, with a penetration rate of 39.6 lines per 100 inhabitants. This marks an increase from 38.4 lines per 100 inhabitants a year prior. The report indicates that fiber optic lines (FTTH) grew by 74,205, totaling 17.9 million.
Market concentration remains high, with Movistar, Vodafone, and MASORANGE controlling 81.7% of fixed broadband lines. When including DIGI, this figure rises to 95.3%. In the mobile sector, there were 62.54 million active mobile lines, with the same three operators holding 86.9% of the market share, which increases to 99% when DIGI is included.
Additionally, the report notes a slight decline in fixed lines, which fell by 12,003 to 17.60 million. The number of mobile number portabilities increased by 2.8% compared to the previous year, with Movistar and DIGI showing positive net portability balances.
