The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has released NBN Co's first Accounting Separation report, covering the six-month period ending December 31, 2024. This report is prepared in accordance with the Approved Accounting Procedures outlined in NBN Co’s Special Access Undertaking (SAU).
The primary objective of the report is to ensure that NBN Co accurately accounts for separate revenue and cost bases for its monopoly services and competitive offerings. This separation is crucial for reflecting the direct and indirect costs incurred, as well as the revenue generated from each service category.
By publishing this report, the ACCC aims to enhance transparency regarding NBN Co's cost allocation practices. This transparency is intended to empower stakeholders to engage more effectively in the evaluation of NBN Co’s future expenditure, pricing strategies, and service standards as stipulated in its SAU.
Currently, NBN Co offers three competitive services under the SAU: Enterprise Ethernet, Business Satellite, and Satellite Mobility services. The report is grounded in the Accounting Procedures approved by the ACCC in 2024, which, along with the Cost Allocation Manual, establishes a comprehensive framework for NBN Co’s accounting separation, record-keeping, reporting, and assurance measures.
Additionally, the report includes certain redactions proposed by NBN Co to safeguard commercial confidentiality, which have been accepted by the ACCC.
