The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will hold a workshop titled 'Measuring Injuries and Benefits in the Data-Driven Economy' on February 26, 2026. This event aims to enhance the agency's understanding of consumer injuries and benefits stemming from the collection, use, or disclosure of consumer data.

Panel discussions will cover various topics, including how to quantify informational injuries and the potential benefits of consumer data collection. The workshop will also address the impacts of data breaches on consumers and explore strategies to minimize these injuries.

Additionally, the event will delve into the costs and benefits associated with behavioral and contextual advertising, as well as measuring consumers' privacy preferences, beliefs, and decisions. This workshop follows up on the FTC's previous workshop on the same topic held in December 2017, reflecting the significant changes in the marketplace over the past eight years.

The workshop will be accessible both online and in person at the FTC’s Constitution Center in Washington, DC. It is free to the public, and no registration is required to attend.
