25.05.2025 | Latvian competition authority
OÜ EG Biofond, a holding company registered in Estonia and part of the Infortar group, has submitted a merger notification to the Latvian competition authority regarding its intention to acquire decisive influence over Estonia Farmid OÜ.
Biofond primarily operates in the dairy sector, biogas production, and wholesale, mainly in Estonia. Infortar, the parent company, is involved in various sectors including energy, shipping, real estate, and financial investments, managing hotels, spas, publishing, and fast-food restaurants in both Latvia and Estonia.
Estonia Farmid OÜ is also registered in Estonia and focuses on agricultural production, particularly dairy cattle and grain cultivation, along with the sale of dairy and grain products. Its related companies in Latvia, OÜ Estonia and OÜ Kabala Agro, are engaged in the trade of agricultural products, including dairy.
The merger participants operate in unrelated markets, which may influence the competition assessment. The competition authority must decide on the merger's approval, prohibition, or conditional approval within one month of receiving the notification. If a more in-depth investigation is required, this period may extend to three months.
Market participants or interested parties wishing to provide feedback on the merger's impact on competition are invited to contact the competition authority's economist, Sanda Blau, or fill out a provided questionnaire by June 13, 2025.
