The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has been recognized for its active and constructive participation in international professional collaborations. This focus on international cooperation is a key area for the GVH, which is a member of several international organizations and working groups.

In April 2025, the GVH hosted the biennial meeting of chief economists from authorities belonging to the International Competition Network (ICN) in Budapest. This event received widespread professional acclaim for both its organization and the quality of its content.

The GVH maintains extensive international connections at regional, European, and global levels. Its goal is to be a significant player in the sharing of professional knowledge and experiences among competition authorities, thereby enhancing Hungary's international reputation and ensuring the highest professional standards in its regulatory work.

Among its various international roles, the GVH co-chairs the Cooperation Issues and Due Process working group within the European Competition Network (ECN). Additionally, it held a co-chair position in the ICN's office effectiveness working group from 2022 to 2025 and was elected chair of the cartel working group for the next three-year cycle. The president of the GVH has also been a permanent member of the ICN's governing body since 2023.

The GVH is actively involved in three different working groups under the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN), focusing on 'Finance of the Future', 'Misleading Green Claims', and 'Online Marketing'.

As part of its international activities, the GVH organizes numerous professional conferences and workshops. For the past 20 years, it has been a central player in the regional professional exchange of experiences through the Budapest Competition Regional Education Center in collaboration with the OECD. The recent ICN meeting in April 2025 addressed the most pressing economic challenges in competition policy, led by recognized academics.

Feedback from participants indicated that the meeting was highly successful in both organizational and professional aspects. Experts praised the quality of information provided before and during the meeting, as well as the facilities at the GVH headquarters and the duration of the session. The national competition authority received positive remarks regarding the relevance of the topics discussed and their presentation.

The GVH also measures the impact of its professional activities. Since 2012, its economists have regularly estimated the welfare benefits derived from the GVH's operations. The latest impact assessment covering the period from 2019 to 2024 indicated that the GVH generated a reported welfare benefit of 112.843 billion HUF for Hungarian consumers, which is 2.5 times its budget for the same period.

It is important to note that these figures are conservative estimates and do not include broader benefits, such as the positive impact of market competition on national economic competitiveness or deterrent effects. Additionally, due to methodological limitations, the calculations do not account for the benefits of the GVH's consumer protection cases.
