The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, has taken decisive action against T-Mobile regarding its subscription service 'Order with T-Mobile', which was found to lead to unwanted charges on consumer bills. The authority's president, Tomasz Chróstny, emphasized the need for consumers to have full control over their subscriptions and to be fully informed about any charges.

As part of the decision, T-Mobile is required to introduce additional confirmation steps for subscriptions, ensuring that consumers are aware of the costs and the service providers involved. This includes implementing a PIN authorization process and clear communication regarding subscription terms.

Consumers who were charged for unauthorized subscriptions between 2018 and 2024 will receive a financial compensation of 500 PLN. T-Mobile will notify eligible consumers through SMS or email, providing various options for compensation, including bank transfers or bill reductions.

This decision is part of a broader scrutiny by UOKiK into direct billing practices in the telecommunications sector, ensuring that consumers are protected from unexpected charges and have a clear understanding of the services they are subscribing to.
