The President of the Polish competition authority has launched an investigation into Aiqlabs, the company behind the Supergrosz service. The allegations include artificially inflating fees associated with credit cards and misleading consumers in their contracts.
Consumers applying for standard installment loans on the Supergorsz.pl website reportedly fell into a trap of complicated legal procedures. The financing provided by Aiqlabs took the form of both a loan and a credit card limit, leading to confusion and potential financial harm.
One of the key issues involves initial fees for the credit card, which were calculated as a percentage of a high credit limit that was never fully available to consumers. This practice resulted in consumers being charged significantly higher fees than they would have been if the fees were based on the actual amount available to them.
For example, a consumer was granted a credit limit of 12,500 PLN, incurring initial fees of 2,925 PLN, only to have the limit reduced to 2,500 PLN. This meant that the fees were calculated on a fictitious amount, leading to excessive charges.
Additionally, Aiqlabs misled consumers by stating that initial fees were 0 PLN in contracts, while in reality, these fees were deducted from the total loan amount. The President of the authority emphasized that such practices violate consumer rights and good business practices.
Consumers are advised to be cautious when applying for online loans, to analyze the total costs, and to be aware of their rights regarding contracts and fees.
