UOKiK Decision on WEIP Parking Practices

18.03.2024 | Polish competition authority

The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has ordered WEIP to refund customers for unjustly issued parking fee payment demands due to lack of a parking ticket.

The President of UOKiK found that WEIP, a commercial parking operator, misled consumers by imposing additional fees even when valid parking tickets were possessed but not visibly displayed, and by falsely claiming that failure to pay would lead to debt collection and enforcement proceedings. WEIP received thousands of complaints annually, with many being wrongly rejected, and misled consumers on complaint submission methods. The decision requires WEIP to refund customers for unjustly demanded fees. This case highlights UOKiK's scrutiny of parking operators and the importance of transparent complaint procedures in line with consumer rights laws.
