Poland has taken over the six-month presidency of the EU Council, which includes coordinating the work of EU institutions and representing the Council before the European Commission and Parliament. The Polish competition authority, UOKiK, is leading discussions on consumer protection and competition law during this period.
UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny emphasized the importance of initiating discussions that will strengthen competition in the European market and enhance consumer positions amid rapid technological changes. Meetings and conferences will be organized to address these priorities.
On March 26, a high-level joint meeting of the Consumer Policy Network (CPN) and Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) will take place in Warsaw, where experts will discuss consumer protection in the context of the digital market's evolution. The agenda will also cover future priorities for consumer protection, enforcement of consumer rights, and promoting informed consumption.
Warsaw will host the European Day of Competition on May 26, focusing on the evolution of competition law and its adaptation to current policy shifts and global challenges. The event will feature discussions on competition policy development and innovative approaches to antitrust enforcement.
During its presidency, UOKiK will pay special attention to strategic sectors like energy, monitoring the market to prevent monopolistic practices. The authority is also involved in developing regulations related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and combating misinformation.
