The European Commission has released new guidelines for large online platforms and search engines to tackle disinformation during elections, with specific measures for the upcoming European Parliament election in June and national elections, including in Denmark.

The European Commission has issued guidelines for online platforms with over 45 million users in the EU, following the Digital Services Act (DSA) regulation. Platforms failing to comply must prove to the Commission that their alternative measures are as effective. The guidelines include recommendations for clear labeling of political ads, AI-generated content like deep fake videos, and collaboration with authorities to combat foreign information manipulation and cybersecurity threats. In Denmark, the Competition and Consumer Authority oversees the DSA regulation, handling complaints against Danish digital services and redirecting complaints about services in other countries to the appropriate authority.
