The CNMC has identified significant barriers that hinder the creation and growth of SMEs in Spain, which represent 99.8% of all companies and contribute 65% of employment and 55% of the private sector GDP.
Among the main obstacles are bureaucratic burdens, regulatory fragmentation, and difficulties in participating in public tenders. The CNMC's study highlights that SMEs often struggle to access information and face complex regulations that discourage their involvement in public contracts.
To address these issues, the CNMC recommends several measures aimed at simplifying regulations, reducing administrative burdens, and improving access to public procurement for SMEs. These include promoting a more integrated market, streamlining the creation of businesses, and reforming the public procurement framework to make it more accessible and competitive.
By implementing these recommendations, the CNMC aims to foster a more competitive environment that benefits both SMEs and the overall economy, ultimately enhancing public services and reducing costs for citizens.
