Following interventions by the Dutch competition authority, all energy suppliers in the Netherlands are now accurately reporting the origins of their electricity, enhancing consumer transparency.

The Dutch competition authority, ACM, has successfully ensured that all energy suppliers in the Netherlands are now providing correct information regarding the origins of their electricity. This follows annual checks conducted by ACM to verify the accuracy of power disclosure labels.

Power disclosure labels are essential for consumers as they indicate whether the electricity supplied is generated from sustainable sources (green power) or fossil fuels (grey power). Each year, energy suppliers must publish these labels on their websites by May 1st, and ACM checks their compliance.

During this year's checks, three suppliers were found to have incorrect information and have since made necessary adjustments. The remaining suppliers were already compliant. ACM also verifies that suppliers can substantiate their claims with Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) or Certificates of Origin (CoOs).

In a separate investigation, ACM found that Zonneplan, a Dutch energy supplier, was not adequately informing consumers about the origin of its electricity. Zonneplan has since updated its website to clarify that it supplies grey power while encouraging customers to use energy during times of higher green power availability through dynamic contracts and a real-time app.
