The Plenary Council of the CNMC has officially appointed Teresa Hernández Guerra as the new Secretary General of the organization. This decision was made through a public competition, adhering to principles of transparency and suitability for the role.

Teresa Hernández Guerra takes over from José Manuel Bernabé Sánchez, who vacated the position on September 1 to become the managing director at the National Center for Oncological Research (CNIO). Hernández holds a law degree from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and has completed a Master's in EU Law from Carlos III University of Madrid, as well as a Master's in Leadership and Public Management from the National Institute of Public Administration.

She is a member of both the Superior Corps of General Administrators of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Superior Corps of Civil Administrators of the State. Hernández brings extensive experience relevant to her new role, having previously served as Deputy Director of Public Procurement Coordination at Canal Isabel II and as an advisor in the Cabinet of the Minister of Finance. Her background also includes work at the Directorate-General for Environment of the European Commission and various technical roles in the Ministries of Defense, Economy, and Finance.

The Secretary General is responsible for providing common services to the CNMC under the direction of its president. The CNMC is an independent body established in October 2013, aimed at ensuring, preserving, and promoting effective competition across all markets and sectors for the benefit of consumers and users.
