International Conference on Competition Law Developments Held in Greece
The Greek Competition Authority hosted an international conference to discuss the evolution of competition law and policy, marking its 30th anniversary.

On October 20, 2025, the Greek Competition Authority organized an international conference titled 'The Evolution of Competition Law and Policy – National and International Perspectives' to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The event was attended by representatives from the political and business sectors, senior judges, heads of competition authorities worldwide, international organization leaders, distinguished academics, lawyers, economists, and IT scientists from Greece and abroad.
The conference commenced with a speech by the President of the Competition Authority, Ms. Irini Sharp, who highlighted the Authority's work over the past 30 years, stating that 'the history of the Competition Authority is the history of the Greek economy, a story of adaptation and continuous effort to achieve justice and transparency in market operations.'
In his opening remarks, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Tasoulas, emphasized the Authority's critical role in ensuring market functionality and institutional credibility, asserting that competition protection is fundamentally a matter of democracy, institutional balance, and social justice.
The Minister of Development and Investments, Mr. Takis Theodorikakos, discussed the Authority's essential role in the economy, while Mr. Carmine Di Noia from the OECD expressed strong commitment to collaborating with the Authority on competition law enforcement.
The conference featured panels with heads of independent authorities discussing the evolution of competition law and its relationship with broader policies, including industrial policy, development, justice, and sustainability.
Panel discussions included prominent figures from various countries, addressing the need for international cooperation in a globalized and digital world, and the role of authorities like the Greek Competition Authority in international competition networks.
In closing, Ms. Chara Nikolopoulou, Vice President of the Competition Authority, emphasized that economies thrive when institutions are strong, and expressed optimism for the future, highlighting the Authority's commitment to contributing to policies that foster a developing and innovative Greece.
