EnergyAustralia Pty Ltd has admitted to breaching the Electricity Retail Code by not making the Solar Sharer Offer available to consumers by the mandated deadline of 1 July 2026. This offer is designed to provide eligible households in New South Wales, South Australia, and South East Queensland with three hours of free electricity during the day.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has accepted a court-enforceable undertaking from EnergyAustralia, which includes the retailer's admission of the breach. The Solar Sharer Offer was eventually made available on 3 August 2026, denying consumers the opportunity to benefit from the plan during the initial period.

ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey emphasized the importance of compliance, stating that EnergyAustralia, as a major energy retailer, should have better systems in place to meet its legal obligations. The delay in offering the plan affected both current and prospective consumers.

As part of the undertaking, EnergyAustralia has committed to continue offering the Solar Sharer Offer, report its compliance to the ACCC and the Australian Energy Regulator, train staff to assist customers, and maintain a notice about the undertaking on its website.

The Electricity Retail Code mandates that electricity retailers provide clear pricing information and comply with specific requirements, including the Solar Sharer Offer for eligible households with smart meters. The offer allows households to use up to 24 kilowatt-hours of free electricity during designated hours each day.
