Greek Competition Authority Approves Minerva's Acquisition of Key Brands

12.06.2025 | Greek competition authority

The Greek competition authority has unanimously approved Minerva's acquisition of exclusive control over several well-known food brands, including 'Altis' and 'Flora'.

On June 13, 2025, the Greek Competition Authority held a session where it unanimously approved the acquisition of exclusive control by Minerva S.A. over the trademarks 'Altis', 'Elanthi', 'SOL', and 'Flora', along with related intellectual property rights. This decision was made in accordance with Article 8, paragraph 3 of Law 3959/2011.

The acquisition pertains to the broader market of edible oils, specifically focusing on the olive oil and seed oil segments. Minerva, which is involved in the production and distribution of edible vegetable oils, will gain exclusive rights to the aforementioned trademarks and associated intellectual property rights, including licenses, patents, domain names, know-how, and business reputation.

The authority considered the market shares of the involved companies, the market shares of competing branded products, the strong presence of private label products, and the dynamics of the sector. It concluded that, despite falling under the scope of Article 6, paragraph 1 of Law 3959/2011 and Article 3 of Law 3592/2007, the competitive conditions in the relevant markets would not change significantly. Therefore, the acquisition does not raise serious doubts regarding its compatibility with competition requirements in the relevant markets.
