The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has officially cleared the acquisition of BDS Vending Solutions Limited by Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland Limited, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola HBC AG. This decision was made on February 12, 2025, following a detailed review process that began with the notification of the proposed purchase in March 2024.
Coca-Cola HBC AG is known for its bottling and distribution of various beverages, alongside providing comprehensive vending services, which include the installation and maintenance of vending machines. BDS Vending, based in Dublin, similarly offers a range of vending services, including sales, operation, and customer support for vending machines.
Initially, the CCPC conducted a preliminary examination but determined that a more in-depth phase two investigation was necessary to assess the potential impact of the acquisition on competition within the market. Throughout this investigation, both Coca-Cola and BDS Vending provided significant additional information, which ultimately led the CCPC to conclude that the merger would not substantially lessen competition in the State.
The CCPC's merger review process is detailed on their website, and a full determination will be published within 60 working days following the decision, allowing the involved parties to request the removal of any confidential information.
