The Bundeskartellamt has fined Pfanner Schutzbekleidung GmbH for engaging in vertical price-fixing practices in the sale of protective clothing in Germany.

12.03.2024 | German competition authority

Pfanner Schutzbekleidung GmbH, a seller of high-quality protective clothing, was fined by the Bundeskartellamt for restricting its resellers' pricing of various protective clothing items. The company and its affiliates had agreements with resellers to set resale prices at recommended levels and not offer significant discounts, leading to potentially higher consumer prices. The Bundeskartellamt utilized new powers granted by the 10th amendment to the German Competition Act to investigate this case, ultimately imposing a fine on Pfanner. The company cooperated with the investigation, leading to a settlement. No proceedings were initiated against the resellers involved.
