The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has issued a response to the consultation regarding the funeral director licensing scheme proposed by the Scottish Government. This response underscores the necessity of establishing a licensing regime that is legally mandated.

In its response, the CMA points out that the proposed code of practice is consistent with the conclusions and remedies outlined in the CMA’s final report on the funerals market investigation, as well as the Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021. This alignment suggests that the CMA supports measures aimed at enhancing transparency and fairness in the funeral services sector.

For any inquiries related to the CMA’s response, stakeholders are encouraged to reach out to the CMA Scotland team via email.
