The European Commission (EC) has launched an investigation into Booking.com for potential violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA) related to its efforts against fraud and scams. This inquiry also examines how Booking.com manages user data to prevent misuse by third parties.

With the rise of scams and fraud in online travel services, the EC is scrutinizing whether Booking.com is adequately identifying and mitigating systemic risks that facilitate such fraudulent activities. Reports of users booking non-existent accommodations have increased, prompting further investigation.

The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is responsible for enforcing the DSA in the Netherlands and is collaborating with the EC due to Booking.com's registered offices being located there. The DSA aims to enhance the safety and reliability of online services across Europe.
