Alternative Operators Capture 82% of New FTTH Connections in Spain

Alternative operators in Spain have captured 82% of the new active fiber-optic (FTTH) connections, with the majority of them being deployed in municipalities with less than 100,000 inhabitants.

In 2022, a total of 7.9 million new FTTH connections were installed in Spain, with 69% of them being deployed in municipalities with less than 100,000 inhabitants. The market share of alternative operators increased significantly in municipalities with less than 10,000 inhabitants. By the end of 2022, Spain had a total of 70.5 million FTTH connections deployed, representing a 12.6% increase compared to the previous year. The penetration of FTTH connections was highest in Barcelona and Madrid, with 41.8 and 39.8 connections per 100 inhabitants, respectively. Alternative operators captured 82% of the new FTTH connections in the last year, with their market share increasing in all municipalities, especially in those with less than 10,000 inhabitants.
