The President of the Polish competition authority (UOKiK) has launched an investigation into Columbus Energy, a company involved in the sale and installation of heat pumps and photovoltaic systems. This action comes after numerous consumer complaints about delays in refunds after contract cancellations.
UOKiK's concerns include the lack of clear information provided to customers before signing contracts. Columbus Energy reportedly failed to specify exact installation dates, instead indicating that these would be determined individually via phone or email. This ambiguity has led to complaints that promised installation timelines were frequently exceeded.
Additionally, UOKiK has raised issues regarding the absence of essential product information in contracts, which could prevent consumers from making informed decisions or comparing offers from other companies. The authority emphasizes that consumers should not be left in the dark about the products they are purchasing.
Another significant concern involves the company's communication about the right to withdraw from contracts. UOKiK questions clauses that suggest starting technical work would automatically revoke this right, arguing that such practices mislead consumers about their legal entitlements.
Furthermore, complaints have surfaced regarding Columbus Energy's handling of refunds for customers who canceled their contracts. The law mandates that refunds should be processed promptly, within 14 days, yet many customers reported waiting much longer for their money.
This investigation is part of UOKiK's broader efforts to ensure fair practices in the renewable energy market, following previous actions against other companies in the sector.
