ACM Urges Online Businesses to Comply with New DSA Rules

16.02.2024 | Dutch competition authority

Starting on February 17, 2024, online service providers must adhere to the Digital Services Act (DSA) to ensure a safe and trustworthy online environment, combat illegal content, protect minors, and enhance transparency.

The Digital Services Act (DSA) will require online platforms, search engines, marketplaces, broadband providers, and hosting services to comply with regulations aimed at preventing the spread of illegal content, protecting minors, and improving transparency. The DSA also mandates that online providers establish procedures for users to report illegal content easily and transparently. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) is calling on online businesses to ensure compliance with the DSA to create a trustworthy digital economy. ACM, as the regulator-designate, is preparing to enforce the DSA once the necessary Dutch legislation is in place. The DSA is part of a broader set of European regulations aimed at protecting businesses and consumers from unfair competition and illegal practices, while also enhancing transparency and user rights in the online environment.
