The Autorité de la concurrence has initiated a competitive assessment of the AURA and CONCORDIS buying alliances, focusing on their effects in both upstream and downstream markets for consumer goods.
This assessment is based on Article L. 462-10, II of the French Commercial Code, which allows the authority to evaluate the actual effects of such alliances post-implementation. Interested parties can submit comments until specified deadlines for each alliance.
The AURA alliance, formed by Intermarché, Auchan, and Casino, aims to enhance purchasing power in food products, while the CONCORDIS alliance includes Carrefour, Cooperative U, and RTG, focusing on manufacturer brand products. The competitive assessment will analyze potential risks to competition and benefits for consumers.
The Autorité's findings will be made public by the end of 2026 for AURA and in 2027 for CONCORDIS, providing insights into the competitive dynamics of these alliances.
