In March 2024, the CCPC blocked daa's acquisition of a car park near Dublin Airport, fearing it would harm consumers by reducing competition and potentially leading to higher prices and lower service quality.
The car park in question, previously leased to QuickPark, was proposed to be bought by daa from Mr. Gerard Gannon, but the deal was blocked due to competition concerns.
Daa already owns 68% of Dublin Airport's car parking spaces, and the potential acquisition would have given them 90% market share, eliminating competition and potentially harming consumers.
The CCPC's full 300-page determination, released today, outlines the extensive investigation conducted from March 2023 to March 2024, emphasizing the importance of competition in the car parking market near the airport.
