The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has conducted an analysis revealing that energy suppliers have improved their financial positions over the past six months. This enhancement in equity and liquidity is crucial for maintaining reliable energy supply, especially during sudden price fluctuations in the market.

According to the ACM's findings, the average equity of energy suppliers has increased, alongside an improved current ratio, which indicates that suppliers are better equipped to handle short-term financial obligations. This is particularly important for suppliers who may need to purchase additional natural gas or electricity unexpectedly.

ACM mandates that all licensed energy suppliers submit financial data biannually to monitor their financial health. This oversight is especially critical before the winter months when energy consumption peaks. While most suppliers are in a stable financial position, ACM has placed four suppliers under intensified scrutiny due to concerns regarding their financial stability and purchasing strategies.

Despite the overall positive trend, ACM remains vigilant, conducting additional checks and requesting further information from suppliers under scrutiny. The authority emphasizes that if any supplier's security of supply is at risk, it will take necessary measures to ensure customers are not left without energy. Currently, there are 52 licensed electricity suppliers and 50 licensed natural gas suppliers, with no changes in numbers since the beginning of the year.

ACM has also intensified its oversight of energy suppliers, conducting stricter checks on new license applications, resulting in one rejection this year. The authority anticipates that more market participants will seek licenses in the coming months.
