The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced a settlement with Greenway Auto Group, requiring the dealership to clearly display the actual price consumers must pay for vehicles in its advertisements. This settlement comes in response to allegations that Greenway misled consumers by advertising prices significantly lower than what they actually charged.

According to the FTC, Greenway's advertisements often excluded mandatory fees, resulting in consumers paying an average of over $3,350 more than the advertised price in more than 92% of transactions. The fees included administrative, dealer, delivery, and processing fees, which were not disclosed upfront.

Additionally, the FTC's complaint highlighted that Greenway used deceptive prize mailers to attract customers, falsely claiming that recipients had won cash prizes that could only be collected at their dealerships. This practice further misled consumers about the true costs associated with purchasing a vehicle.

The FTC emphasized the importance of truthful advertising in the auto industry, noting that consumers need accurate information to make informed financial decisions. The agency has been actively promoting price transparency across various markets, including auto sales, grocery delivery, and ticketing.

The settlement was authorized by a 2-0 vote from the Commission and will take effect once approved by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
