Belgian Authority Greenlights Louyet Group's Acquisition of Garage Quevrain

02.02.2025 | Belgian competition authority

The Belgian Competition Authority has approved the Louyet Group's acquisition of Garage Quevrain, finding no overlap in their activities.

On January 31, 2025, the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) announced its approval of the Louyet Group's acquisition of Garage Quevrain. The acquisition was notified on January 21, 2025, and the Louyet Group requested the application of a simplified procedure for the review.

The Louyet Group is a prominent player in the motor vehicle distribution sector, operating various dealerships for brands such as BMW, MINI, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Kia across Belgium and Luxembourg. Their services include the sale of new and used cars, maintenance, repair services, and spare parts distribution.

Garage Quevrain, located in Namur, specializes in selling new and used Mazda, Jaguar, and Land Rover vehicles, along with providing after-sales maintenance and bodywork repair services for these brands and Saab. The BCA's decision highlighted that there was no overlap between the activities of the two companies, which allowed for the simplified procedure to be applied without raising any objections.

The BCA plays a crucial role in enforcing competition policy in Belgium, focusing on preventing anti-competitive practices and reviewing significant merger operations. The authority collaborates with other EU competition authorities and the European Commission as part of the European Competition Network.
