The Belgian competition authority has announced the receipt of a merger notification concerning the acquisition of Delfood NV by Delhaize Le Lion / De Leeuw NV. This notification was filed on October 30, 2025, under the provisions of the Belgian economic law regarding competition protection.
The proposed merger involves Delhaize acquiring 100% of the shares of Delfood NV, which operates in the wholesale and retail sectors of food and daily consumer goods. Delhaize is known for its grocery stores in Belgium and Luxembourg, operating under various formats such as 'AD Delhaize', 'Proxy Delhaize', and 'Shop&Go Delhaize'. It is part of the Ahold Delhaize group.
Delfood, on the other hand, is also engaged in the sale of food and daily consumer goods in Belgium, focusing on both wholesale and retail markets, particularly in the proximity and convenience segments. Delfood is part of the LDz group, which owns the Louis Delhaize brand.
The authority has invited interested third parties to submit their observations regarding the proposed merger, preferably before November 7, 2025. Comments can be sent via email referencing the case number MEDE.CC.25-0015.
