E-commerce in Spain Grows by 18.2% in Q1 2025

Spain's e-commerce sector saw a significant growth of 18.2% in the first quarter of 2025, reaching a total revenue of €25.75 billion.

The Spanish competition authority, CNMC, reported that e-commerce in Spain experienced an 18.2% year-on-year increase in revenue during the first quarter of 2025, totaling €25.75 billion. This growth reflects a robust market performance, with over 474 million transactions recorded, marking a 14.9% rise compared to the previous year.

Among the sectors contributing to this growth, travel agencies and tour operators led with 9.4% of total e-commerce revenue, followed by the air transport sector at 6.7%. The gambling and betting sector also showed strong performance, accounting for 8.5% of transactions.

Geographically, 43.5% of the e-commerce revenue was generated from within Spain, while 56.5% came from purchases made by Spanish consumers from foreign retailers. The net external balance indicated a deficit of €11.24 billion, highlighting the significant volume of imports compared to exports.

Transactions originating from Spain and directed towards foreign markets amounted to €14.56 billion, a 14.6% increase from the previous year. Notably, 94.2% of these purchases were made from retailers located within the European Union.

Overall, the e-commerce sector in Spain continues to thrive, with a notable increase in both revenue and transaction volume, reflecting changing consumer behaviors and preferences in the digital marketplace.
