On July 31, 2025, the Finnish package travel organizer Mixx Travel was declared bankrupt, impacting over 100 Finnish customers who were on trips in destinations like Turkey and Greece. The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) has announced that customers can apply for reimbursement for package travel services that were not provided due to the company's bankruptcy.
Travellers currently abroad are advised to check their return flight details directly with airlines, as some flights booked through Mixx Travel have been cancelled. If a scheduled flight is cancelled, customers must arrange their own return flights but can seek reimbursement from the FCCA's security. Similarly, for charter flights, customers are expected to organize their own return travel, with potential reimbursement available for reasonable costs incurred.
For those whose trips have not yet occurred, any advance payments made to Mixx Travel can be claimed back. Customers who have only partially paid for their trips are not obligated to pay the remaining balance, as the cancellation is due to the organizer's breach of contract. Additionally, if the trip was paid for using credit, customers may request a refund directly from their credit provider, which may expedite the reimbursement process.
The FCCA has provided guidance to affected travellers through text messages and emails, detailing how to apply for reimbursement. Claims should primarily be submitted online, with a six-month deadline from the date of bankruptcy. Customers in other Nordic countries are directed to submit their claims to Kammarkollegiet in Sweden, which has a shorter deadline.
Reimbursement claims can cover advance payments, unused portions of interrupted package travel, and certain accommodation costs. However, individual travel services, day trips without accommodation, and other specific expenses are not eligible for reimbursement from the FCCA's security.
