The Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) has released the final settlement report for the electricity sector for the year 2024, indicating a surplus of €881.7 million. This figure is €482.8 million higher than the initially forecasted surplus of €399 million.

This surplus is primarily attributed to the implementation of specific articles from recent legislation, including Real Decreto-ley 8/2023 and Real Decreto-ley 4/2024. The report highlights that the revenues were sufficient to cover all regulated costs, leading to this positive financial outcome.

Furthermore, the surplus increased by €262 million compared to the previous settlement due to additional income from interest and hydraulic fees, although it was partially offset by increased specific remuneration for both the peninsular and non-peninsular systems.

The report also details adjustments from previous years, indicating a complex interplay of financial factors that contributed to the final surplus figure. The CNMC continues to monitor and regulate the electricity market to ensure fair competition and consumer protection.
