On April 30, 2026, the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA) issued interim measures requiring AutoScout24 Belgium to restore the portability of sellers' ad data to the competing platform carselect.touring.be. This decision follows a complaint from TCS Mobility, which alleged that AutoScout24 had halted the automated transfer of data, forcing dealers to manually re-enter information.
The BCA found that AutoScout24 holds a dominant position in the market for second-hand car classified ads in Belgium, making it an essential platform for professional car dealers. The authority determined that AutoScout24's actions likely constituted an abuse of this dominant position, violating both Belgian and EU competition laws.
AutoScout24's refusal to allow data transfers was linked to TCS's introduction of a new pricing model that charges for leads generated from ads. The BCA concluded that this conduct could cause significant harm to TCS, particularly as a new market entrant needing to build a customer base.
As a result, the BCA has imposed a penalty of EUR 20,000 per day, up to a maximum of EUR 7,000,000, if AutoScout24 fails to comply with the order. Additionally, AutoScout24 is required to notify its professional clients about the restoration of data transfer capabilities.
